Review

I Spent two trips back to back in April 2015 on M/Y Sakura, diving Tubbataha reefs. I must say that the experience was wonderful. Palawan Diving is awesome!

To set the record straight

You are paying for a ‘budget liveaboard’ in Philippines- so be prepared for a budget liveaboard – if you want 5* luxury, you have to pay for it (double or more for the same diving). Given that you are going to be underwater or on the deck for most of the day and sleeping out at night, the bunks did not matter to me.

We had 9 divers on the first and 12 divers on the second trip.
A motley bunch from various countries – but the way the boat is made, interaction with all is much more than the other boats, so it was a lot of fun.

My top 5 reasons why i would go again?
1 Nothing beats them for value for money
2 Trimaran hull – was much more stable in swells compared to much bigger boats – less chances of sea sickness
3 Treatment from dive masters is 5* – you just get on the zodiacs with your fins and weights – everything else is taken care of. After each dive, the same – you go and relax and the dive team takes care of changing tanks and putting gear back on the zodiac
4 Being a strict vegetarian, i was concerned but after the first meal (where i was left a bit hungry ? ), they tried their best to help me out – i think now the chef knows the term ‘strict veggie’ very well!!
5 Great dive masters – know the reef and are good spotters

Prices for beverages are reasonable and they charge no corkage for things brought on board yourself.

Sunsets and sunrises were spectacular

Diving was spectacular too – if you want, do have a look here (it has pics of the boat too)

Dino was very helpful and communicative right from the start and has the vision to make more people enjoy diving at a reasonable price

Let (Angelita) was very accommodating and was constantly on the lookout for things that could make people feel comfortable

Carmelo and Nap are great divemasters.

Would i dive with them again? No questions asked

Highly recommended budget liveaboard !

p.s. the top deck is the best place to be – evening and night!
For the best diving in Palawan and the best liveaboard in Tubbataha…. Sakura fits the bill
